Introduction to the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Tamkang University was established in 1958 and has a history of 67 years, with over 5,000 alumni. Tamkang Chemistry offers rich and comprehensive learning resources and environment, investing over a hundred million NT dollars to establish a precision instrument center and an independent student reading space. In addition to basic chemistry courses, to enhance students’ practical and problem-solving abilities, the department has specially planned mentor-based research projects, industry-academia cooperation, corporate internships, overseas exchanges, and other project courses to explore future career directions. These projects cover high-value application fields such as nanotechnology, energy, optoelectronics, food safety, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and AI. Starting from the 113th academic year, the department will reduce the required credits for the major, encouraging students to use the minor and double major systems for interdisciplinary learning, establish a second specialty, strengthen foreign language skills, and create a personalized learning resume to face future challenges. The Zhongling Chemistry Building, exclusively for the use of chemistry faculty and students, is located in the center of the campus, with convenient transportation. It is a 10-minute walk from the Tamkang University Station of the light rail or a bus transfer from the Tamsui MRT Station. Starting in 2024, the government will provide an annual tuition subsidy of NT$35,000 for private university students. The Tamsui area is convenient and has lower living costs. For students interested in the field of chemistry, the Department of Chemistry at Tamkang University is an ideal choice to enhance their abilities and career competitiveness.
